Can a US citizen use betting exchanges?
Hi Mike,
I just subscribed to your newsletter and have enjoyed reading the Feb issue. I am relatively new to this and have just found out about the exchanges. I have been a Wm Hill client for the last year or so. I opened accounts with Betfair and Betdaq and Racingpost and none will let me transfer $ by credit card to my account because of the legislation prohibiting betting from the USA.
I live part of the year in Indonesia but spend most of the year here in the USA and my bank affiliations are all here in the USA. Wm Hill lets me deposit and withdraw $ via Western Union but the other three new accounts do not use Western Union.
Betdaq will accept checks but that is a bit time consuming and bothersome and I would like the convenience and speed that the internet offers.
I lost 2 plays this week because of ties which would have covered had I had the opportunity to play them on the exchanges. Any thoughts how I can handle this money transfer thing ?
Any thoughts would be most appreciated.
Thank you.
Tom
The issue of exchanges' attitudes to US customers is one that I will be addressing in a future edition of Bet Exchange News . If there are any other US citizens who are able to share any experiences I would be pleased to hear from you. Tom has since been in contact to tell me that he has successfully opened and used TradeSports he has also reported to me that he is delighted with their service.
