Hello and welcome to the July issue of Bet Exchange
News. Don’t worry you haven’t missed an issue, I have
skipped June in name only, so that all issues now appear before the
month they are named after. This is the way all other periodicals
work, so it seems to make sense to follow the convention.
Once again I am delighted to introduce new writing talent
to the Bet Exchange News team. I have been aware of Duncan Disorderli’s
knowledgeable and entertaining forum posts since the early days of
Flutter and am pleased that he has agreed to share his personal view
of betting exchanges with us. The other new writer is my friend aubri,
a former tennis professional who has some potentially valuable insights
to share with us about the importance of timing your peak effectively
to give you the best chance of winning your chosen tournament.
A highlight of this issue is part 2 of Cubone’s
life story. Our former bookie turned betting exchange professional
has had an extraordinary life and I am delighted to be telling the
story in this newsletter. This month’s installment describes
the way they went from riches to rags within two short years. Definitely
recommended reading.
We also have a review of the BBC2 Money Programme about
the battle of the bookies, an excellent article from the Racing Post
about punters over reacting to certain developments and finally an
article about Bet Exchange News! Last month I wrote an article about
investing in betting exchanges. If I am honest I thought this article
would make uncomfortable reading for small betting exchanges as it
pointed out the significant barriers which stood in the way of their
success. In the case of play2play.com they have actually taken comfort
from this article and recommend it to their members that they should
read it. Their analysis of the article and the reasons why they are
taking comfort from it can be found in this issue.
A quick reminder that all back issues of Bet Exchange
News and its predecessor Bookie Free News can be found online at my
website where you can either browse through the articles at your leisure,
or use the search feature to find articles which are of particular
interest to you.
Happy reading.
